This course will provide Agents with an overview of all the significant changes to Florida Insurance Laws initiated by both, the John and Patricia Seibel Act and the Safeguard Our Seniors Act. Agents will understand the facts that led to the passing of the John and Patricia Seibel Act, the basics of annuity products and the restrictions they might impose on senior customers. They will also get acquainted on the standards by which annuity recommendations should be made to seniors, as well as the information that must be obtained and documented before the sale of an annuity to a senior customer. Finally, Agents will get a deep understanding about the required annuity disclosures, the unfair and deceptive acts, the penalties and corrective actions that may be imposed when it is determined that a senior consumer was harmed by the sale of an unsuitable annuity, the ethics of suitable annuity sales and the agent’s fiduciary responsibilities when serving as a product adviser. (Should be applied as elective for all other licenses)

 This course will help Agents to identify the points at which fraud may be committed in insurance transactions and the parties involved as well as  examine the challenges of processing claims promptly in order to comply  with government regulations while, at the same time, avoiding claims of bad faith during an investigation of possible fraud. Agents will take a look at the most common types of property and casualty, life, and health insurance fraud and the role that organized crime plays in all of these areas. The various technologies, both high tech and low tech, that are used to combat insurance fraud are presented, and the red flags of insurance fraud are identified. In general after completion, Agents should understand the effects and implications of insurance fraud; be able to distinguish between hard and soft insurance fraud; be able to compare internal fraud and external fraud and cite examples of both. Also will be able to describe the many types of property and casualty fraud; understand the scope of life insurance fraud and the schemes used to carry it out; be able to identify health insurance fraud and recognize its participants; be aware that insurance fraud is detected by both sophisticated and low-tech methods and know insurance fraud in various types of coverage.
